Do we cover…?
With up to $20K/year, 80% back on eligible vet bills – including sick‑visit exams and applicable taxes – we’ve got your pet covered from nose to tail
Great question.
We cover a lot of things – like unexpected ouchies, weird symptoms, and those “should we call the vet?” moments.
Your policy starts at 12:00 AM the day after you enroll. That’s also when your waiting periods begin – the short countdown before some or all of your coverage kicks in.
Accident waiting period: 48 hours after policy start date
Illness waiting period: 14 days
Cruciate/knee conditions: 180 days
Why it matters:
Covered - What's Included

Core Coverage Accident & Illness Sick‑visit exams + applicable taxes Imaging (X‑ray, CT, MRI) Hospitalization, surgery, anesthesia Diagnostics & bloodwork Emergency & specialist referrals Prescription medications |
Advanced & Extra Care Alternative therapies (acupuncture, physio, chiropractic) Cancer treatments & chronic care (diabetes, allergies) Hereditary/congenital conditions included Prescription diets, medical devices, travel boarding, and over $3K/year in perks – like lost‑pet advertising, pet‑trip cancellation, 24/7 Telehealth, cremation support, etc. (subject to certain sub-limits) |
🚫 What’s Not Covered
❌ Not Covered | Why? |
Routine and preventive wellness (vaccines, dental cleanings) | We focus on the unexpected so premiums stay affordable for all members. |
Behavioural/preventive training or devices | These expenses are considered part of routine care and general pet ownership, rather than unexpected medical needs. |
Cosmetic/elective procedures | We focus on the unexpected, so premiums stay affordable for all members. |
Pre‑existing conditions | Conditions before policy inception or during waiting periods, including associated or bilateral conditions, aren’t included. If pet insurance companies didn’t exclude pre-existing conditions, it would be easy for some people to wait until their pet developed expensive conditions before enrolling and starting to pay for insurance. Therefore, causing affordable premium costs to go up for all other responsible pet parents. |

From ear infections to broken bones, your pet’s covered for unexpected health issues that they may experience in their lifetime.
We sure do.
If your pet’s not feeling their best and you take them in for an eligible accident or illness, we’ve got the exam fee (and taxes!) covered.
Yes! If they’re prescribed by your vet to treat a covered condition.
Special kibble or meds? Consider it handled.
For prescription foods, we cover $100 per cat and $250 per dog, per policy year. Co-insurance and deductible don't apply to this, and it also doesn't apply to your $20k annual limit.
Absolutely.
Once it’s covered, it stays covered once your deductible is paid and up to your maximum annual limit – no per-condition limits, no lifetime limits. Just care.
Nope, we don’t cover the predictable and preventable stuff.
But that’s how we keep our premiums affordable for the unexpected stuff. (And hey, your vet probably has great wellness packages for that.)
P.S. We do cover dental tooth fractures for eligible accidents and illnesses
Whether it’s the middle of the night or you need a fancy specialist—we’ve got your back (and your pet’s belly, leg, or whatever needs help).
If it’s prescribed by your vet to treat a covered condition, we’re into it—even if it involves tiny needles.
If your pet showed signs or symptoms of something before your policy started (or during a waiting period), including associated or bilateral conditions, that’s considered pre-existing. But future unrelated new conditions? Those are covered.
Once you have Furkin…
Covered. As long as it’s not for a pre-existing condition or elective procedure, surgery (plus anesthesia, imaging, hospitalization, meds) is all within your annual coverage.
For prescription foods, we cover $100 per cat and $250 per dog, per policy year. Co-insurance and deductible don't apply to this, and it also doesn't apply to your $20k annual limit.
That one might be considered pre-existing. But Furkin’s got good news: if your cat doesn’t show any signs, symptoms, or abnormalities related to the ear infection – and doesn’t receive any diagnosis, treatment, or medication for it – for a period of 24 consecutive months, we may no longer consider it pre-existing. At that point, it could be eligible for coverage again.
